Follow the target and see more about the functionality and the highlights of our bed systems!

Heater
The ceramic heating system BluCeramics is very reliable, efficient, warms the water proportionally, has a low surface temperature and is outfitted with a comfortable thermostat control. It is TÜV-approved including the GS-certificate and has overload and overheating protection for additional safety.

Floor loading
A waterbed with the dimensions 200 x 200 cm plus two people weights approx. 800 kg, distributed within the floor area of the pedestal (approx. 3 square meters).

Split-frame
Designed for the built-in bed system, the Split-frame makes it easier to change the bed sheet. The necessary depth measured from the base plate is 11 cm. The necessary bed frame height is no less than 34 cm.

Plus - frame
In case that a BluTimes waterbed is supposed to be integrated into an existing bed frame with 200 cm length but the contact face needs to be extended due to the body height of the customer, we offer the plus-frame without extra charge. This frame version goes to zero on the upper edge of head and foot area and therefore gives you a full length of comfortable support.

Cover
BluTimes uses medicott® cover fabrics. The upper side has a hydrophile surface (fluid absorbing), it picks up fluids and allows them to evaporate upwards and to the sides. But not downwards. There the hydrophobic fabric stops fluids from entering while letting air circulating freely. The protection with MikroStop prevents additionally the build up of mildew. The removable upper sheet is partable and fits into your washing machine. If necessary it can be replaced completely.

Uno and Dual
Unlike Uno Dual means: separate water mattresses with two heating systems and individual water filling. Especially recommended for back pains and for the different weights and temperature preferences of the sleepers.

Grades of motion stabilisation
We want to enable you to match your well being with your individual needs. Therefore we offer you eleven different grades of wave motion stabilisation. You can choose between F0 - not stabilised (the water moves about 7 to 10 seconds) and F10 - very highly stabilised (0 seconds).

Fleece
The fleece is integrated into the mattress in order to stabilise the wave motion. They are connected through seams and thermal fixation with the mattress bottom to ensure their correct position at all times.

water mattress
The centrepiece of your waterbed is the water mattress. The mattress skin is made of a 0,6 mm thick, yet very flexible vinyl offering you an ideal relation between material thickness and elasticity. Manufacturing with the most up to date welding technology results in clean and stable seams. But only where there are really needed: on the corners and on the bottom face.

Lumbar-support
Additional fleece in the lumbar region supports soothingly the body and contributes to the relaxing sleep.

Topliner
Our dust cover on the BluTimes water mattress blocks out everything. The inside stays clean and the cleaning becomes much easier.

Hygiene
Nothing can penetrate. The BluTimes water mattress is easy to keep clean due to its smooth vinyl surface.

Anti - squeaking
The vinyl surface is slightly coarse despite its closeness. This prevents a possible "squeaking" of the waterbed in case the mattresses rub against each other.

Thermo layer
To insulate the base plate better, BluTimes uses a thermo layer in its water mattress. This achieves together with the heating system BluCeramics an energy conservation of up to 15 %.

Care
With the purchase of a BluTimes waterbed you receive the complete starter set: conditioner, vinyl cleaner, air pump, repair set, filler and adapter for your faucet.

Material pedestal
All materials are of course tested for environmental tolerance. We use only formaldehyde-free particle boards, water based varnish and solvent-free adhesives.

Pedestal
Our pedestals are designed for the safe holding of the water mattress. The weight distributor is made of 19 mm thick particle boards, fixed with high quality furniture fittings and "chamfered" for easy moving even on carpet after the full assembly of the bed. The white laminated base plate is 19 mm thick and has a plastic bracket around the edges. Rounded cable ducts.

Tube water mattresses, Hardside - waterbed, Softside - waterbed

Tube water mattresses
A tube water mattress is hardly comparable with a real waterbed. Basically their only common ground is the element water. The tube water mattress consists of several narrow water hoses next to each other. These hoses are normally embedded between two foam layers. This system does not require a lot of water and can be safely placed on a normal slatted bed frame. However this mattress can not offer the advantages of a real waterbed. Nevertheless does this tube water mattress or light waterbed has its place as an alternative to the conventional mattresses.

Hardside waterbed
The classic waterbed was and is a Hardside-bed. This version features a 22 cm high water mattress that is directly placed into a solid wooden frame which provides the stability along the sides. The whole construction rests on a base plate which is supported by weight distributors. A safety layer is inserted between the water mattress, the frame and the base plate. It will catch the water in case of damage to the mattress. The disadvantage of this system is that the non existent sitting edge makes it harder to get in or out of the bed.

Softside-waterbed
The nowadays most commonly used version of the waterbed is the Softside-bed. This type has a foam frame with sitting edge for the side stabilisation. We distinct between different variations: The freestanding waterbed which does not need a bed frame. The built-in waterbed on the other hand is integrated into existing bedsteads. Our aesthetically pleasing freestanding split-waterbed features coloured padding at its lower foam frame.

The waterbed system

In its basic structure a waterbed consists of a pedestal with the matching base plate. The pedestal makes the height adjustment to the desired position possible.

The integrated weight distributors allocate the weight of the waterbed evenly to approx. 220 kg per square meter.

The special feature of the BluTimes weight distributors is their tilted border on all sides which makes it possible to shift the bed subsequently without doing damage to your hardwood floor, laminate or carpet.

The heating system is located between the base plate and the safety layer. For energy saving reasons we added in our BluTimes waterbeds under the heating system an insulation layer. The safety layer over the heater catches any leaking water in case of damage to the mattress.

The water mattress

High quality mattress covers are usually made of 0,6 mm thick and at the same time very flexible vinyl which offers you an ideal relation between material thickness and elasticity. In order to avoid mechanical pressure to the cover seams these should be turned to the underside of the mattress, facing the base plate.

Water mattresses with a stretch pattern on their cover reach a higher surface elasticity. This enhances the comfort and the adaptability of your mattress immensely.

The grades of motion stabilisation

The first waterbeds were manufactured with a smooth vinyl layer and just filled with water. These mattresses are now called "free flow". In order to moderate the water motion in the mattress one uses nowadays different methods:

Foam tubes or fleece pads inside the mattress help to stabilise the waterbeds low grade, high grade or completely. The method to stabilise the water motion through fleece is the oldest and the most commonly used.

Foam tubes are more and more often used for high grade stabilisation. The moderation with foam tubes makes it easier to get in or out of the water bed.

Aside from the specific method of stabilisation it is important to find out which grade of stabilisation comes closest to the individual sleeping habits.

BluTimes offers you a high range of stabilisation grades for your waterbed so you can find the best for your personal needs.

You can choose between F0 - not stabilised (the water moves about 7 to 10 seconds) and F10 - very highly stabilised (0 seconds). Waterbed purists still love the unstabilised feeling - the so called "free flow" in the free flow-bed.

Uno & Dual

We distinguish between single (Uno-) and twin (Dual-) watermattresses. As opposed to Uno Dual means: two separate water mattresses with one foam framing, two heating system and individual grades of motion stabilisation.

Dual sleeping systems are especially recommended for double beds.

Your BluTimes approved dealer will give you individual advice and help you find the water mattress which suits you best, as a single or as a couple.

Installation & setup

The assembly of a waterbed should be carried out by a specialist. He has the necessary tools, such as a clean, sterile water hose. Only this way you can be sure that everything is properly mounted and that exactly the right amount of water was filled in.

The installation of a waterbed takes approx. 2 hours. The actual time depends greatly on the water pressure in your house because the filling of the mattress takes the longest. Please read the manual provided by your dealer.

 back to top of page

Filling quantity

The filling quantity affects comfort and function. It is an important factor for the right lying position.

The amount of water differs in relation to the volume of the foam core, the body weight and the individual lying habits. Too little water can cause muscle tension in the loin, too much water encourages neck pains (as if you would lay on top of a hill, your body will be stretched.)

Take out or refill only small amounts of water at a time ( 1 - 2 liters). You will find that already little amounts make a big difference in your lying comfort.

Weight & floor loading

A waterbed with the dimensions 200 x 200 cm plus two people weight approx. 800 kg, distributed within the floor area of the pedestal of approx. 3 square meters.

Normally the weight of a water bed should not cause trouble for any kind of floor structure, because of its very even weight distribution of approx. 220 kg per square meter.

Heating - function, costs & efficiency

The comfortable warmth is one of the most appreciated features of a waterbed. The heating system consists of a heating mat or a ceramic heating element with an adjustable thermostat. The heating mat is embedded between the safety layer and the mattress. It is equipped with a heat sensor.

Good heating systems are TÜV- and EMV-approved and GS-certified. For your safety there are additionally equipped with overload protection and overheating protection.

The temperature should in general not be under 26°C or in the winter between 28°C and 30°C. If you would rather switch your heating system off at night, you can easily pull the plug or use the timer which ideally is already built in the system.

The electric power consumption is around 4 - 5 Euros per bed per month. Furthermore a waterbed is a very well insulated system with its foam frame, pedestal and the base plate enclosing it on all sides.

Aside the actual heating system are other factors which influence the consumption of energy, such as bed room temperature, bed size and the insulation layer used by BluTimes.

 back to top of page

Life span, durability & warranties

The life span of a waterbed amounts to over 15 years depending on care and quality. It is important to know that the supporting element of a water mattress is the water itself. Water doesn't suffer from wear and tear. The comfort and the outstanding characteristics of a water mattress remain unchanged over years - in contrast to conventional mattresses.

With little effort in care you will still be sleeping on your water mattress in 15 years as if it is the first day. These long durations of high functionality make a waterbed one of the most cost efficient sleeping systems.

 back to top of page

Seal of quality

To quickly see where the chaff separates from the wheat, a water bed should always be TÜV-approved and pollutant certified. TÜV (Technical Inspection Agency) offers 3 important certificates:
  • GS for approved safety
  • ToxProof for the highest standards in pollutant assessment in the waterbed
  • Durability certification
Those seals of quality which of course apply to all BluTimes waterbeds ensure that you will be able to enjoy your waterbed even after many years.

 back to top of page

Care

A waterbed does not need a lot of "care". The only treatment necessary is the regular supplement of some water conditioner to the water in your mattress. The conditioner keeps the water fresh and the safety layer will stay flexible despite of the water movement inside the mattress. This prolongs the life expectancy. A regular external care of the mattress with vinyl cleaner adds furthermore to the long life of your water mattress.

The textile cover which is used by Blutimes prevents the aggregation of mites, microbes and mineral salts and is additionaly easy to clean and washable.

 back to top of page

weight & static

You probably don't worry about the stability of your floor construction when you plan a party with ten people.

But these ten people are heavier and have a higher spot load then a waterbed could ever reach - when we talk a waterbed weight of 800 kg. The spot strain is comparable with 3 standing people per square meter.

To give you another example: The strain your washing machine puts on the floor area of 60 x 60 cm is higher then the same sized area of a waterbed.

If you live in a building listed in a historic register with old wooden beams - please ask a technician first.

Getting in, getting out & sitting

How comfortable it is to get in and out of the bed depends greatly on the type of waterbed. A Softside waterbed with foam frame makes the getting in and out very easy, especially if it is equipped with the BluTimes Softside-case.

Modern, high quality Softside systems offer additionally a variety of helping devices. A Hardside waterbed with its wooden frame on the other hand hinders the comfortable getting in and out considerably.

Of course you can also sit comfortably in your water bed. Very comfortably even!

A good waterbed can adapt to any sitting position you want to adopt, it completely aligns to your body. Your legs will be automatically higher then the rest of your body due to their lesser weight which gives you an ideal sitting position. Contrary to the adjustable slatted frame the mattress surface outlines perfectly your body's dimensions.

 back to top of page

Pollutants

Only a certified quality can give you the safety of a pollutant-free bed. (ToxProof certificate). By all means watch out for this seal when you choose a waterbed mattress.

 back to top of page

Electromagnetic pollution

It is known that even relatively weak magnetic fields can cause physical discomfort such as headaches and nervousness in especially sensitive people.

Most of the water bed heating systems are GS-TÜV approved and low emitting. Those who do not want electrical currents in the bedroom at night can switch off the heater.

Heater from BluTimes (BluTherm) do that automatically through the built-in timer. The water cools down without heating at night not more then one degree. You probably want to ban common radio clocks, television sets and cell phones from your bedroom.

 back to top of page

Seasickness

There is not a single case of seasickness due to a waterbed known until this day. Medical experience rules this possibility with absolute certainty out. The water is only in motion when you are moving. The so induced commotion is immediately dampened by the integrated stabilisation. Please also note that the frequency of your moving at night is lowered by a multiple factor due to the almost unnoticeable lying pressure.

 back to top of page

Disturbing your partner

It is highly unlikely that you disturb your partner by getting into bed, unless you really take a run. In this case you would have woken him / her up also sleeping in conventional mattresses.

In principle: The higher the grade of stabilisation of your waterbed, the less do movements transmit. In a waterbed with a sufficient grade of motion stabilisation you will not disturb the mattress of your partner with your movements.

 back to top of page

Electricity & water

An electric shock in a waterbed is not possible. The whole system of a waterbed heater is grounded.

Most waterbed heating systems are GS-TÜV tested. The heater itself has a waterproof shell and is additionally twice removed from the water by the coatings of the safety layer and the water mattress itself. Water and electricity are therefore three times removed from each other. Newer heating systems are even more protected through innovative materials and fuses.

It is best to choose a European heating system which is already made for 220 V and does not need to adapt from the American 110 V. The majority of the heating systems are tested by various European safety institutes (VDE, TÜV, KEMA, BENOR) and qualify as very safe.

 back to top of page

Water damage

If you buy a European waterbed by a known brand you should be safe from water damage. The production technologies nowadays ensure seams without weak spots. High quality waterbeds have their seams between mattress and base plate (no mechanical strain of the seams) and feature additionally reinforced corners.

All waterbeds have a security layer around the mattress which holds the water in case of a leak and makes sure that no water from your bed can get into your apartment.

Very rare, small repairs can be fixed on the spot without spoiling the life span of your waterbed.

 back to top of page

Insurance

No special insurance is needed for a waterbed. Just as your washing machine, your dishwasher etc. is your waterbed usually covered by the standard household insurance.

 back to top of page

Ripping, bursting, rampage, knifes, high-heels and cats claws

A waterbed can not burst because it is a pressureless system. In fact you can sit on your bed with the filler tube open and no water would get out. The water wouldn't shoot out of the bed even in case of a damage to the mattress, it would only collect very slowly in the safety layer. Nevertheless it might be best not to take high-heels with metal plating or very sharp knifes with you into bed…

High quality waterbed covers even save the mattress from damage through claws and teeth. It is only possible that your pets love the waterbed as much as you do, but who can hold that against them?

You can have a lot of fun in your waterbed with your playing children and a pillow fight. The supporting attributes of a waterbed will not suffer with frequent and extreme strain as compared with conventional mattresses. A waterbed will always keep 100 % of its comfort and supporting function.

Repairs
Should your mattress be locally damaged - the application of a vinyl patch will ensure the normal life expectance of your waterbed.

 back to top of page

Sweating

Most waterbed sleepers prefer a temperature between 27°C and 30°C. The right cover is very important. Down covers and normal polyester blankets are not suited because they can cause a heat stroke.

We recommend blankets with an ideal breathability which is ensured by materials like tencel filling, Klimadura and G-Loft fibre. It is still advisable to air out the bed half a day. Just like with any other bed.

 back to top of page

Moving

That is also no problem. Many waterbed dealers offer a house moving service.

 back to top of page

Gurgling & bubbling

Fortunately waterbeds make no sounds. After the bed is assembled the technician removes the air with an air pump. This process should be repeated another 2 - 3 times. The regular maintenance with the water conditioner will also keep the water fresh and prevents algae accretion.
